By: DLangford

Water filter comparison and choice is greatly simplified by the system of certification used for home water filters. One of the criteria for choosing a filter should be whether or not it is certified by one of the three accredited testing organizations: The National Sanitation Foundation International (NSF), The Underwriters Laboratories (UL), or The Water Quality Association (WQA).

What Does It Mean to Meet a Standard?

Suppose a filter has the NSF seal of approval for Standard 53. What does this mean? Does it mean they have met all the standards set for each contaminant tested under Standard 53? No! You always need to ask, "For what contaminant or contaminants have they met Standard 53?"

A manufacturer claims that their filter can remove a list of specific contaminants. NSF is a neutral third party which uses rigorous standards and methods for testing that filter to see if it really does remove those specific impurities. For the impurities that pass the reduction test, it issues its NSF "seal of approval" saying, "This filter effectively reduces these contaminants."

If they have met the reduction standard for lead, for example, that means they have the "seal of approval" for reducing lead to an acceptable level. You can see that one filter might effectively reduce one health-related contaminant and another effectively reduces 15 health-related contaminants and both get to claim NSF seal of approval for Standard 53. So look closely at what has been tested and verified.

What does the Term Reduced Mean?

A second question that needs clarification is what does the term "reduced" mean? When NSF says a filter "reduces" lead in the water, what does that mean? Is it reduced to a specific level or is it "reduced" in a relative sense meaning "lowered the amount of"?

Let me try to clarify. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has set two standards for each contaminant. One is called the MCL or the Maximum Contaminant Levels and the other is the MCLG or the Maximum Contaminant Levels Goal. The first is what is required of public water utilities and the second is the ideal level they should be aiming at. The public water utility is required to inform the public on each contaminant and if they don't reach the MCL for a contaminant they must point it out to the public in their annual water quality report.

It is this former standard, the MCL or Maximum Contaminant Levels standard that NSF International is testing water filters against for filter certification. They introduce high levels of that contaminant into the water and then test the filter to see if it reduces that contaminant to the MCL of that impurity. If the filter claims to work for 500 gallons before changing it, they run all 500 gallons, testing periodically to be sure that contaminant is reduced to the MCL level continuously up till the last of the 500 gallons.

All this is done for your benefit so you can be sure that the filter you are buying is effectively reducing the contaminants they claim to be reducing.

A Useful Tool

NSF has a useful tool on their website for verifying whether or not a given filter is certified. This tool is entitled "Product and Service Listings" and can be found at http://www.nsf.org/Certified/dwtu/. It will tell you the number of the standard for which the filter is certified and exactly for which contaminants it is certified to reduce.

Hiring a Google Adwords Certified Company

By: Mel Joelle

Making the decision to hire an outside consultant to help you with your pay per click management, campaigns and ad copy creation process can be one of the biggest decisions you make for the health of your company. If you have decided to hire a consultant, it is critical that you hire a Google Adwords Certified Consultant. This will ensure that your pay per click campaign will be setup accurately and effectively. We all know what a big impact a properly designed and implemented pay per click campaign can make.

The Google Adwords Certification process is very thorough. It ensures that the consultants that have the certification to assist you, as well as the knowledge of how to best utilize Google’s program for a pay per click campaign. One of the primary focuses of the certification process is keyword analysis. This makes sense because keywords are the backbone of any PPC campaign. Individuals interested in the certification have access to Google’s learning center. Once they are ready, they take a Google Authorized test.

Google is constantly changing the exam. These changes are based on changes to the current marketing climate on the Internet. New tools and methods of utilizing Google Adwords are also included in these frequent changes.

Many consultants have opted to take the certification exam to further their ability to assist customers with their PPC campaigns. The certification is an indication that company is professional and has the expertise needed to implement a successful campaign.

Anyone can take the Google Adwords Certification exam – as long as they have a My Client Center and have utilized it for 90 days. A fee of $50.00 is required. These requirements are not very strict, but that does not mean that everyone who claims to be Adwords Certified actually is. Ask to see some kind of authentication that your SEO company has actually participated in the Google Adwords Certification program.

If you are considering hiring a Google Adwords certified company, there are several things to look for.

1. Be sure to view their certificate – this is typically available online at their client center. Ask when their last certification was given. You may want to consider utilizing a different company if the certification is more than a year or two old.

2. Request letters of recommendation or contact information from previous clients. Whenever you hire a professional you should look into their history.

3. Ask for the web addresses of several sites they have worked for and, as silly as it sounds, proof that they did the work.

4. Completely read and review any contract before signing it. Be sure you understand all of the terms and conditions. It is a good idea to be leery of any company offering ‘guarantees’ as it is nearly impossible to guarantee results – there is likely a catch so be sure to read the fine print

Google Adwords is simply one of the best marketing choices, especially for pay per click management purposes. Consider hiring a certified consultant to assist you with your marketing and management needs. Contact us, we can help.

By: Elizabeth Carrigy

Because diamonds are considered as investments, several organizations exist to grade and certify these commodities. These companies spread world-wide function independently but follow the international norms and standards in grading and certifying diamonds.

The much needed industry standard for any certification is provided by Gemological Institute of America (GIA) The international parameters set by the GIA is the minimum standard criteria worldwide The American Gemological Society (AGS) is also there which deals in the marking of grades to the colors of diamonds and gemstones during the process of certification of those diamonds and gemstones. They have color grading standards which are thought to be more exceptional than the GIA.

There are also the Accurate Gemological Labs. Accurate Gemological Laboratories and the EGL (European Gemological Laboratories) is its European counterpart. The AGL's comprehensive reports evaluate the diamond's 4 Cs; this is the organization's major role in diamond certification. Except for the furnishing of extra information of proportions of any diamond, the EGL toes the guidelines of AGL . The report is all-encompassing with the inclusion of unique features like angles of pavilion and crown.

International Gemological Institute (GMI) IGI The diamond certification compares to the Europeans. The angles and the crown of the diamond are also talked about by them. The main benefit is that these are less expensive than the GIA. Their primary points of focus are in small and mid-range diamond gem stones.

Discuss diamonds and Australia comes right behind it, and then after this certified diamonds. There is the IGL, which is said to be very accurate and specific. Every single one of the diamonds presented to be certified is subjected to a high-precision examination for purity, color, and other attributes; the diamond is then re-evaluated by another certifier, and the results are compared.

We also Hoge Raad voor Diamant or "High Diamond Council, as it is commonly called This world renowned Belgian company carries high quality diamond certifications. They provide the Certificate only if it conforms strictly to the stringent international specifications To prevent tainting a final report, the name of the diamond holder is never stated. We also Gubelin Labs located in Switzerland which began with the famous Dr. Gubelin Eduard. They are also a highly recognized company, in the diamond certification field, which appraises gemstones.

Courses for MCSE Training - Thoughts

by: Jason Kendall

As you're researching courses for MCSE, it's possible you're in one of the following categories: You're possibly contemplating a complete career change to get into the IT field, and research demonstrates there's a growing demand for qualified people. On the other hand you're currently an IT professional - and you should formalise your skills with an MCSE.

We'd recommend you prove conclusively that your training company is supplying you with the latest Microsoft editions. Many trainees become very demoralised when they realise they've been learning from an out-of-date syllabus which will need updating. Steer clear of providers who are only trying to make a sale. Ask for comprehensive, personal guidance to make sure you're registering on the correct course. Resist being forced into their standard course by an over-keen salesman.

How the program is actually delivered to you can often be overlooked. How many parts is the training broken down into? And in what order and at what speed is it delivered? Training companies will normally offer a program spread over 1-3 years, and send out each piece as you pass each exam. This sounds reasonable until you consider the following: What would their reaction be if you find it difficult to do each section at the speed they required? And maybe you'll find their order of completion won't be as easy as an alternative path could be.

The ideal circumstances are to get all the learning modules posted to you immediately; every single thing! Then, nothing can hinder your progress.

Students looking to build a career in computers and technology usually haven't a clue which route they should take, or even which market to get certified in. Since in the absence of any commercial skills in the IT industry, in what way could we know what anyone doing a particular job actually does? Arriving at any kind of right choice will only come via a careful analysis of several altering areas:

* The kind of person you reckon you are - what kind of jobs you really enjoy, plus of course - what makes you unhappy.

* Are you looking to reach a specific aspiration - like working from home someday?

* How important is salary to you - is it very important, or does job satisfaction rate a little higher on your list of priorities?

* With so many different sectors to gain certifications for in computing - you will have to achieve some key facts on what differentiates them.

* Taking a serious look into the effort, commitment and time that you're going to put into it.

The best way to avoid the industry jargon, and discover what'll really work for you, have a good talk with an experienced professional; someone who appreciates and can explain the commercial realities whilst covering the accreditations.

Finding job security in the current climate is incredibly rare. Companies can throw us out of the workplace with very little notice - whenever it suits. In times of increasing skills shortages and high demand areas though, we generally locate a fresh type of market-security; driven forward by a continual growth, organisations just can't get the staff required.

The most recent United Kingdom e-Skills investigation highlighted that over 26 percent of all IT positions available are unfilled as an upshot of a lack of trained staff. Essentially, we only have the national capacity to fill just three out of each four job positions in the computer industry. Acquiring in-depth commercial Information Technology certification is accordingly a fast-track to realise a life-long as well as pleasing living. Actually, retraining in Information Technology over the years to come is very likely the finest career move you'll ever make.

Charging for exams as an inclusive element of the package price then including an exam guarantee is common for many companies. Consider the facts:

In this day and age, we're a bit more aware of hype - and most of us cotton on to the fact that it is something we're paying for (it isn't free or out of the goodness of their hearts!) People who take exams one at a time, paying as they go are far more likely to pass first time. They are thoughtful of the cost and revise more thoroughly to ensure they are ready.

Doesn't it make more sense to not pay up-front, but when you're ready, not to pay any mark-up to the training college, and to do it in a local testing office - instead of miles away at the college's beck and call? A great deal of money is secured by many training colleges who incorporate exam fees into the cost of the course. For various reasons, many students don't take their exams but no refunds are given. Amazingly, there are providers that actually rely on students not sitting all the exams - as that's where a lot of their profit comes from. Remember, with the majority of Exam Guarantees - you are not in control of when you are allowed to have another go. Subsequent exam attempts are only authorised at the company's say so.

Splashing out often many hundreds of pounds extra on an 'Exam Guarantee' is naive - when study, commitment and preparing with good quality mock and practice exams is what will really guarantee success.

Cisco CCNA Training Courses UK - Options

by: Jason Kendall

CCNA is where it all starts for Cisco training. This will enable you to operate on the maintenance and installation of routers and switches. Fundamentally, the internet is based upon huge numbers of routers, and big organisations who have a number of branches need them to keep their networks in touch.

As routers are connected to networks, it is necessary to have an understanding of how networks function, or you'll struggle with the training and be unable to understand the work. Find training that includes basic networking skills (such as CompTIA) prior to starting your CCNA.

You'll need a tailored route that covers everything to make sure you have the correct skill set and knowledge before getting going with Cisco.

Many trainers have a handy Job Placement Assistance facility, to help you get your first job. Because of the great shortage of skills in this country right now, there isn't a great need to make too much of this option though. It's not as difficult as you may be led to believe to find your first job as long as you've got the necessary skills and qualifications.

Advice and support about getting interviews and your CV may be available (if it isn't, consult one of our sites). Make sure you work on your old CV today - not when you're ready to start work! Quite often, you'll land your first position whilst you're still studying (even when you've just left first base). If your CV doesn't show your latest training profile (and it's not being looked at by employers) then you don't stand a chance! If you'd like to get employment in your home town, then you'll probably find that a local (but specialised) recruitment consultancy can generally work much better for you than some national concern, for they're far more likely to have insider knowledge of what's available near you.

Please be sure that you don't conscientiously work through your course materials, and then just stop and expect somebody else to find you a job. Get off your backside and make your own enquiries. Put the same resource into finding your new role as you did to get trained.

If you forget everything else - then just remember this: Always get full 24x7 instructor and mentor support. Later, you'll kick yourself if you don't adhere to this. Avoid, like the plague, any organisations who use 'out-of-hours' messaging systems - with your call-back scheduled for the next 'working' day. This is no use if you're stuck and want support there and then.

Be on the lookout for training schools that incorporate three or four individual support centres from around the world. Every one of them needs to be seamlessly combined to provide a single interface as well as round-the-clock access, when it suits you, with no hassle. Seek out an educator that gives this level of learning support. Only proper live 24x7 support truly delivers for technical programs.

Locating job security nowadays is incredibly rare. Businesses will remove us from the workplace at the drop of a hat - whenever it suits. Where there are rising skills deficits coupled with high demand areas however, we often hit upon a newly emerging type of security in the marketplace; driven by a continual growth, businesses struggle to find the number of people required.

Taking a look at the Information Technology (IT) business, a recent e-Skills study showed a more than 26 percent shortage in trained professionals. It follows then that for each 4 job positions existing in the computer industry, companies can only find trained staff for 3 of them. Attaining the appropriate commercial Information Technology exams is consequently a fast-track to achieve a continuing as well as pleasing profession. Undoubtedly, now really is the very best time to train for IT.

Commercial qualifications are now, very visibly, starting to replace the more academic tracks into the IT industry - why then is this happening? As we require increasingly more effective technological know-how, industry has had to move to the specialised training that can only be obtained from the actual vendors - namely companies like Microsoft, CompTIA, CISCO and Adobe. This usually turns out to involve less time and financial outlay. Vendor training works by focusing on the actual skills required (together with a relevant amount of background knowledge,) instead of trawling through all the background detail and 'fluff' that computer Science Degrees can often find themselves doing - to pad out the syllabus.

What if you were an employer - and your company needed a person with some very particular skills. What should you do: Go through loads of academic qualifications from hopeful applicants, asking for course details and which workplace skills they've acquired, or pick out specific commercial accreditations that exactly fulfil your criteria, and draw up from that who you want to speak to. The interview is then more about the person and how they'll fit in - rather than on the depth of their technical knowledge.

Microsoft SQL Computer Training Providers - Thoughts

by: Jason Kendall

What kind of things do you expect the top of the range Microsoft certified training providers to provide a trainee in Britain in this day and age? Undoubtedly, the ultimate in Microsoft authorised training routes, offering a range of options to take you into a selection of professions with IT. Try to discuss all the different permutations with a person who understands the commercial needs of the market, and can influence your choice of the most fruitful career to match your character. Make sure your course is designed to your ability level and skills. The best companies will always guarantee that the course is relevant to where you want to get to.

Without a doubt: There really is absolutely no individual job security now; there's only market or sector security - companies can just drop any single member of staff whenever it fits the business' business requirements. We could however hit upon security at the market sector level, by probing for areas of high demand, mixed with a lack of qualified workers.

The IT skills shortage around Great Britain clocks in at approx 26 percent, as shown by the most recent e-Skills investigation. Essentially, we're only able to fill just 3 out of each four job positions in IT. This distressing fact highlights the validity and need for more properly qualified computer professionals across Great Britain. Because the IT sector is expanding at such a rate, there really isn't any other sector worth looking at for your new career.

Make sure that all your exams are current and what employers are looking for - forget programs which end up with a useless in-house certificate or plaque. If your certification doesn't come from a conglomerate such as Microsoft, Cisco, Adobe or CompTIA, then it's likely it will have been a waste of time - because it won't give an employer any directly-useable skills.

The market provides a myriad of professional positions up for grabs in IT. Arriving at the correct choice for yourself is a mammoth decision. As having no commercial background in IT, how should we possibly understand what a particular job actually consists of? To get to the bottom of this, there should be a discussion of several different aspects:

* The sort of individual you are - which things you really enjoy, and don't forget - what you hate to do.

* Are you driven to re-train for a certain motive - for instance, is it your goal to work at home (self-employment?)?

* Does salary have a higher place on your wish list than other requirements.

* Understanding what typical Information technology areas and sectors are - plus how they're different to each other.

* The time and energy you will put into your training.

In these situations, you'll find the only real way to investigate these areas is through a chat with an advisor that has years of experience in the IT industry (and more importantly the commercial needs.)

A number of students assume that the traditional school, college or university route is still the best way into IT. So why are commercially accredited qualifications becoming more in demand? The IT sector now recognises that for an understanding of the relevant skills, certified accreditation from the likes of Adobe, Microsoft, CISCO and CompTIA often is more effective in the commercial field - and a fraction of the cost and time. This is done by concentrating on the skills that are really needed (along with a relevant amount of associated knowledge,) as opposed to spending months and years on the background 'padding' that computer Science Degrees can get bogged down in - to fill a three or four year course.

As long as an employer understands what they're looking for, then they simply need to advertise for the exact skill-set required to meet that need. Commercial syllabuses are all based on the same criteria and aren't allowed to deviate (as academic syllabuses often do).

UK Web Design Courses And Programs Insights

If you've aspirations to be a professional web designer qualified appropriately for the job market today, you should find training in Adobe Dreamweaver. The whole Adobe Web Creative Suite should also be studied in its entirety. This will mean you have knowledge of Action Script and Flash, amongst others, and will put you on track to gain your Adobe Certified Professional or an Adobe Certified Expert accreditation.

The building of the website only scratches the surface of what's needed - in order to maintain content, create traffic, and work on dynamic sites that are database driven, you'll need to bolt on further programming skills, such as PHP, HTML, and MySQL. In addition, you should gain a practical knowledge of E-Commerce and SEO (Search Engine Optimisation).

If you're considering a training company which is still using workshops as a necessary part of their training, then take note of these difficulties reported by most trainees:

* Many centre visits - often 100's of miles.

* Monday to Friday accessibility with workshops is usual, and getting two to three days out of work can be difficult for most working students.

* With only 4 weeks annual leave, giving half of them to educational workshops means we'll be hard-pushed to get a holiday with our families.

* 'In-Centre' days usually get overly large as well.

* Maybe you like to work at a different pace to others in the class. This creates tension in the class.

* Many trainees report that the (not inconsiderable) costs of getting transport to and from the facility whilst paying for accommodation and food can get very expensive.

* Quite a lot of trainees want study privacy to avoid any kind of management questions in their job.

* It's not unusual to feel awkward about asking questions in a class full of other attendees - who wants to look like they're the only one who doesn't get it?

* Usually, workshops frequently become pretty much impossible to attend, when you live or work away from home for some part of the year.

The best possible solution is by viewing a filmed lesson - providing direct instruction at a time that's convenient to you alone. You can train wherever you want. If your PC is a laptop, why not take in some sun in your garden as you work. If you have any difficulties then logon to the 24x7 support facility. It really doesn't matter how regularly you would like to re-take a quiz or test, filmed teachers aren't ever likely to rush you! And remember, with this method, there's no need to take notes. Everything is already there for you when you need it. What could be more straightforward: No travelling, wasted time or money; and you get a much more comfortable training environment.

Authorised exam preparation and simulation materials are vital - and should definitely be obtained from your course provider. Don't go for training programs relying on unofficial preparation materials for exams. The type of questions asked is often somewhat different - and this could lead to potential problems when it comes to taking the real exam. For many reasons, it's very important to be confident that you are completely prepared for your actual certification exam prior to going for it. Revising 'mock' tests adds to your knowledge bank and will avoid you getting frustrated with unsuccessful attempts at exams.

How Does a TV Work: How Man Ended Up with a Decent TV Set

Simply put, if electronic engineers were to explain how does a TV work, they’d say it’s the conversion of electromagnetic waves into light and acoustic energy. The interplay of light and acoustic energy inside the TV tube and out the screen is what people view when watching TV.

The wireless electromagnetic waves are sent or transmitted to the TV antenna or receives from TV towers. TV stations send these signals or waves to distant places by bouncing them off these powerful towers, reaching remote places. For international transmissions, signals are bounced off through satellites hovering in outer space. In a broader sense, this explains how does a TV work.

It was Michael Faraday who first tried to show people how does a TV work. Well, it wasn’t exactly an actual television set he was demonstrating but the relationship or workings of light and electricity to produce some images in the 1830s. After about a hundred years, more improvements were done on faraday’s work and soon TV sets began being produced en masse for commercial purposes.

The years prior to mastering how does a TV work were a series of trial and error, tirelessly re-designing and improving on various devices for better transmission and reception of electronically sent patterns or signals of light and sound. Such light and sound transmissions revolutionized radio receptions that brought mere acoustic information. Now, acoustic data were coupled with interesting images through lighting information.

Then in 1883, they made a more daring experiment to improving how does a TV work. To transmit image information electronically and store it, they used a mechanical media which was a like a scanning disk. This perforated disk rotated as it presented images in broken stages. To make this really work, a photo cell was placed at the rear of the disk as it rotated. The sensitized photo cell took care of sending the broken images as a sequence of electrical stimuli to a receptor. Then everything was beamed to another rotating disk which composed the initial image. However, the experiment was not that successful. The image resolution was poor.
The 1900s brought hope in realizing the mechanism needed to make a decent TV set really work. Now they had better ways on showing how does a TV work. Technological advances leading to breakthroughs in radio, physics, x-rays, and more sophisticated wireless transmissions made success in finalizing how does a TV work, and more so, the coming of the cathode-ray tube.

Cathode-ray tube came with a magnetic field. It was ideal for receiving electronic images. It was Boris Rosing, a Russian scientist, who made Cathode-ray tube possible and further improved on this latest electronic find. Then a thing called Iconoscope also came into the picture. It scanned and converted electronic signals through an electronic beam really nice and easy. With the help of other inventions, like the Mosaic for microscopic photosensitive pixels, the first useful and decent TV set was born in 1929 and then mass produced by the 1940s.

Since then, electronic experts began to have a definite answer to how does a TV work. Will Spencer is writing electronic appliance and information articles such as How does a Plasma TV work? and How does a LCD TV work? for the electronic and technical website 'Tech FAQ'. MBA – Is it really hit by the recession

Different people do an MBA for different reasons. Many to get a managerial job, some for an appraisal, others for pride, few for knowledge. The question we face right now is that does it really make sense to do an MBA in such times of recession.

Many people think it is the best time. The economy is in recession, there are hardly any jobs and negligible appraisals. Therefore it is best time to spend two years in a B-school, gain more knowledge and upgrade your skills. And after two years, hopefully when the economy has recovered, they can take advantage of the scenario.

This is indeed being seen by the sudden surge in the number of applications to B-schools especially from people from the IT sector. Many people from IT or engineering background have been on the bench for some time. And they see this time as the best for doing an MBA.

In better times, an MBA from any institute would be good. There were too many jobs and lesser people. But now people must choose the institute or B school and the course very carefully. They must look into the curriculum and duration of course. Also the course fee needs to be kept in mind and people must see if it is worth it.

Also people must forecast that which sectors will recover fast and in which sectors will there be a real boom. Retail which at the moment is taking a real dip will definitely make a big comeback. We can see that in developed countries, 90% of retail is in the organised format. And if India will progress, our retail sector will also transform. Therefore a specialization in retail management will be really sought after qualification.

Similarly, Insurance and Banking are set to evolve further and grow. After the current recession, banking and insurance is set to go into a boom as more and more people will start banking.

To summarise, we can definitely say that this is the best time to do a management course specializing in Retail, Banking and Insurance.

Fashion Design Programs

Every one known fashion nowadays. Many people are life style, dressing, whatever there are many aspects of the profession. Working as a fashion designer can just as well mean supervising a design team at a sportswear company as producing a label under your own name. Although the former career may not seem as glamorous as the latter, it certainly will make your life less
stressful. To create your own label takes a lot of time, dedication and hard work. Not to mention living just above the poverty line for several years.

There are as many different ways to embark upon a fashion career as there are styles of design. Ralph Lauren's Polo empire was founded on a small tie collection that he sold to Blooming dales.the most people find that the best foundation for a design career is to get a fine arts degree in fashion at a prestigious school. Besides teaching you the craft, a good school will also add credibility to your resumé. "We live in a brandname society, and having the name of a good school behind you really does help," says Carol Mongo, Director of the Fashion Department at Parsons School of Design in Paris.

There are a lot of colleges that have fashion programs, but only a handful has the kind of reputation that can really push your career. It's hard to enter these schools as competition is high, and they tend to be very selective. You apply by sending a portfolio of drawings of your designs. says Carol Mongo. She recommends students to get some sewing experience before they apply.

Drawing is also an important skill for a designer – it is the way you communicate your ideas. In order to build an impressive portfolio it's a good idea to have some experience in sketching; taking art classes will help you understand form and proportion.

But you don't have to be an expert drawer to get accepted to a school. "The most important quality that we look for in our students is that they are truly passionate and exuberant about fashion," says Mongo. "If you have wonderful ideas but can't draw, there are
always ways to get around it. You could for example put your designs on a mannequin and take pictures of it."

Most fashion programs are three to four years long. During that time you will take fine arts classes and study drawing, color composition and form. You will also learn pattern making, draping and cutting techniques. One of the most important advantages
of design schools is that they work really closely with the industry. Parsons, for example, have "designer critic projects" where successful designers like Donna Karan and Michael Kors work directly with the graduating students. Ambitious students also have
the chance to win prestigious awards and grants, which bring them a lot of attention as well as financial support. One very important event is the fashion show at the end of the last semester, when graduating students show their collections. A lot of important people from the fashion industry attend these shows to scout new talent. It's also an opportunity to be really outrageous and get noticed by the media. Hussein Chalayan, for example, became instantly infamous when he showed rotting clothes that he
had buried in his backyard for his graduation show at Saint Martins.

"Let's be realistic," says Carol Mongo at Parsons, "School's not for everyone. If you're just looking to get a job in the fashion industry – not a career as a designer – you probably don't need to go school." If you want to work as a seamstress or a patternmaker, the best thing is probably to apply for an internship at a fashion house and work your way up. However, there are many examples of famous designers who started out as interns with no formal training. designer who learned the jobs hands-on, as an assistant at Jean-Paul Gaultier. Usually, you apply for an internship by sending a portfolio to a fashion house you're interested in. But it's a good idea to call them up beforehand to see exactly what they need. It's also important to note that competition is fierce, and unless you have personal connections, it's very difficult to get an internship without an education.

There are also designers, like Luella Bartley, who started their own business after working as stylists for several years, thus building an industry network as well as a good marketing sense.

Unfortunately, it's not enough for a designer to be creative; you also have to have some business sense. As fashion gets more and more corporate driven, it's important to be aware of the business climate and understanding the mechanics behind it. By religiously reading trade papers like "Women's Wear Daily" you will get a lot of valuable information. If you want to run your own company, you need to be extremely organized and learn at least the basics of economics. A lot of fashion schools are currently increasing business classes in their curriculum. "Our students have to be smart enough to know how to negotiate a contract, or to pick a business partner," says Carol Mongo. It's perhaps telling that many of the designers that are really successful today, like Calvin Klein or Tom Ford, are involved in every aspect of the business – from licensing strategies to ad campaigns to actually designing the clothes.

Spiritual Warfare Study: Truth Cries Out

To understand the battle, we need to begin with acknowledging that we are in a war. Battles make up smaller components of the bigger picture. By definition, battles involve combat between two persons, between factions, between armies and they consist of any type of "extended contest, struggle, or controversy" (Webster-Merriam). As Christians, we are in a spiritual battle of some sort on a daily basis. In warfare, battles are fought on different fronts, for different reasons, and with varying degrees of intensity. The same is true in spiritual warfare. Our spiritual battles are real, even though we cannot physically see the attacker. But, we can educate ourselves on how the battles are fought and how they impact our lives on a daily basis.

We have to ask ourselves, “Why do we even want to fight?” It will do us no good to educate ourselves on the battle if we see no reason for the fight. War is very controversial today in the physical realm. Those attitudes, beliefs and convictions will transfer over to the spiritual realm. However, in the spiritual realm, there is a battle going on regardless of our opinion. We are either victors or victims. Jesus has come and conquered. The war is already won in the heavens. Jesus told us in Matthew 28:18 that, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” We now have the privilege of having an eternal relationship with God. Many of us enter into that covenant of salvation by grace. But the Matthew 28:18 verse is not only about our salvation; it is also about our every day victory, which adds up to victorious living in Christ. Every day victory is achieved by knowing, believing and understanding the battles that we are enduring daily, regardless if we are passive or active in the battles. Do you want all that God has for you on this earth right now, or do you want to wait until you get to heaven to receive the victory and blessings?

How do we know that there is a spiritual realm? If we cannot see it, should we believe in it? Many believers and unbelievers today do not want to “deal” with a world we cannot see when the world we do see is hard enough to “deal” with. Before we can discuss the spiritual battle, we have to believe in the spiritual realm. We have a tendency to act like a two-year-old child who closes her eyes and places a blanket over her head, really believing that no one can see her because she cannot see them. Just because we cannot see the spiritual realm does not mean it is not there. Keith Green, a Christian songwriter, wrote, “I [Satan] used to have to sneak around. Now they just open their doors. No one’s looking for my tricks because no one believes in me anymore.” However, if we choose to ignore or not believe in the spiritual realm, we will find ourselves confused, frustrated, and quenching the peace that God has promised to each of us. The best defense is a strong offense. Just educating ourselves about the spiritual realm is half the fight and God gives us everything else we need to be victorious with the other half.

Are you tired of feeling like you are losing the battle…even the war? When you learn the truth, you are truly set free. Most of us are not aware of the bondage around us, keeping us locked up. The sad part is that the barriers are mostly invisible. We are wrapped up in thoughts of fears, doubts and failures. But, once we learn the truth, we never go back. I used to have a large fenced in area in my back yard that held two large German shepherds. They were big dogs and as they were growing and they were very gregarious dogs and I had to build a pen in my backyard to hold these dogs. I called a fence company and basically fenced in my whole backyard, so they had plenty of room to roam and play. The fence was about six feet in height. One day as I am watching them romp around the yard in their pen, I realized that they could both jump the fence with little effort. I knew they could jump the fence, but they did not know they could jump the fence. Then, one night they jumped the fence. I could never keep them in the pen anymore. I would put them back in the pen and they would jump over the top. They knew their freedom was on the other side. They learned the truth. If we just could learn and know that the very fence or pen we are in, we can get out of it, then the enemy’s lies, schemes, tricks, and manipulations will no longer work because we know the truth and the truth has set us free. There is nothing in your life right now that you cannot get out of. No bondage, no captivity, no addiction, nothing can keep you down if you can know what the Son has done for you by the blood of Christ. We must start by knowing the truth. How do we then live in it?

UK Based MCSA Courses Insights

by: Jason Kendall

For anyone interested in a Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) course, it's important to realise that companies offer quite diverse courses; some are easier than others. You will find a number of options, both if you're new to network support, or an IT professional looking to polish up your CV. For a newcomer to the industry, it could be appropriate to improve your skill-set ahead of attempting to go for your MCP's (Microsoft Certified Professional exams) that are required to gain MCSA certification. Search for an organisation that will design a course to cater for your needs - one who can be relied on to guarantee that your choices are good ones.

Many trainers provide a big box of books. This isn't very interesting and not ideal for achieving retention. Many studies have proved that long term memory is improved when we receive multi-sensorial input, and we put into practice what we've been studying.

Top of the range study programs now offer interactive CD and DVD ROM's. Through instructor-led video classes you'll take everything in through the demonstrations and explanations. You can then test yourself by utilising the practice lab's and modules. Any company that you're considering must be able to demonstrate some simple examples of the materials provided for study. Make sure you encounter videos of instructor-led classes and many interactive sections.

It is generally unwise to go for purely on-line training. With highly variable reliability and quality from all internet service providers, make sure you get physical media such as CD or DVD ROM's.

OK, why is it better to gain commercial certification rather than familiar academic qualifications obtained from the state educational establishments? With the costs of academic degree's becoming a tall order for many, alongside the industry's general opinion that vendor-based training is closer to the mark commercially, we have seen a great increase in Microsoft, CISCO, Adobe and CompTIA based training routes that supply key solutions to a student for considerably less. In a nutshell, only that which is required is learned. It isn't quite as lean as that might sound, but the principle remains that students need to concentrate on the fundamentally important skill-sets (along with a certain amount of crucial background) - without attempting to cover a bit about everything else (as degree courses are known to do).

When an employer understands what work they need doing, then they just need to look for the particular skill-set required. Commercial syllabuses all have to conform to the same requirements and aren't allowed to deviate (like academia frequently can and does).

Doing your bit in progressive developments in new technology gives you the best job satisfaction ever. Your actions are instrumental in shaping the next few decades. Computer technology and connections via the web will radically alter the direction of our lives in the future; to a vast degree.

The regular IT professional in the UK is likely to earn significantly more money than his or her counterpart in much of the rest of the economy. Average incomes are some of the best to be had nationwide. Due to the technological sector growing at an unprecedented rate, the chances are that the requirement for certified IT specialists will remain buoyant for quite some time to come.

Many students come unstuck over one area of their training which doesn't even occur to them: How the training is broken down and packaged off through the post. By and large, you will purchase a course requiring 1-3 years study and receive one element at a time until graduation. This sounds logical on one level, until you consider this: What if you find the order pushed by the company's salespeople doesn't suit all of us. It may be difficult to get through all the modules within the time limits imposed?

To provide the maximum security and flexibility, many trainees now want to insist that all study materials are sent immediately, and not in a piecemeal fashion. It's then up to you at what speed and in which order you want to go.

Computer Career Training And Study Around The UK Explained

by: Jason Kendall

Congratulations! By landing here you're probably toying with the idea of re-training to work in a different industry - that puts you way ahead of the crowd. A small minority of us are satisfied with our careers, but most just moan and do nothing about it. You could be a member of the few who actually do something about it.

Before we even think about individual training courses, discuss your thoughts with an industry expert who will be able to guide you on what to look for. Someone who has the ability to get a feel for your personality, and find out the best career for you to work towards:

* Are you hoping to be involved with others in the workplace? Would that be with the same people or with many new people? Perhaps working alone with your own methodology would be more your thing?

* Banking and building are not coping well right now, so it's important to look very carefully at what sector would suit you best?

* Once your training has been completed, would you like your skills to see you to retirement age?

* Do you want your study to be in an area where as far as you can see you will be able to work up to retirement age?

The most significant market sector in the UK to meet the above criteria is Information Technology. There's a shortage of knowledgeable people in the industry, simply have a look at a local jobs website and you'll discover what we mean. However, it's not full of techie geeks staring at theirscreens every day - there's a lot more to it than that. The majority of the people in the industry are ordinary people, with well paid and stimulating jobs.

Don't forget: the actual training or an accreditation is not the ultimate goal; a job that you're getting the training for is. A lot of colleges seem to place too much importance on the actual accreditation. It's a testament to the marketing skills of the big companies, but a large percentage of students start out on programs that sound marvellous from the prospectus, but which provides a job that doesn't satisfy. Talk to many university students for a real eye-opener.

Stay focused on where you want to go, and then build your training requirements around that - don't do it the other way round. Keep on track and ensure that you're training for an end-result that'll reward you for many long and fruitful years. Look for advice and guidance from an experienced advisor, even if there's a fee involved - as it's a lot cheaper and safer to discover early on whether your choices are appropriate, instead of discovering after two full years that you're doing entirely the wrong thing and have to return to the start of another program.

Please understand this most important point: You absolutely must have proper 24x7 instructor support. Later, you'll kick yourself if you don't adhere to this. Avoid those companies that use call-centres 'out-of-hours' - with your call-back scheduled for typical office hours. This is no use if you're stuck and need an answer now.

It's possible to find professional companies that give students direct-access online support at all times - no matter what time of day it is. If you accept anything less than online 24x7 support, you'll regret it very quickly. You might not want to use the service during the night, but what about weekends, early mornings or late evenings.

When did you last consider the security of your job? Normally, this issue only becomes a talking point when we experience a knock-back. However, the lesson often learned too late is that true job security simply doesn't exist anymore, for nearly everyone now. However, a marketplace with high growth, where staff are in constant demand (through an enormous shortfall of trained people), provides a market for proper job security.

Taking the IT business for instance, the most recent e-Skills study showed a skills gap in the United Kingdom around the 26 percent mark. Put simply, we're only able to fill just three out of each 4 job positions in IT. This glaring concept reveals the urgent need for more properly accredited Information Technology professionals across the country. We can't imagine if a better time or market settings could exist for acquiring training in this hugely growing and evolving sector.

Don't accept anything less than an accredited exam preparation programme included in the package you choose. Be sure that the mock exams are not just posing the correct questions on the right subjects, but ask them in the same way that the proper exam will phrase them. This really messes up students if they're met with completely different formats and phraseologies. Be sure to have some simulated exam questions in order to check your comprehension at any point. Simulated or practice exams help to build your confidence - so the actual exam is much easier.

Training in CompTIA PC Support - Options

by: Jason Kendall

The CompTIA A+ training program covers four areas of training; you're considered an A+ achiever when you've achieved certifications for 2 out of 4 subjects. This is why it's usual for colleges to only have two of the courses on their syllabus. You'll find that to carry out a job effectively, you'll need the teaching in all areas as many positions will require an understanding of each specialist area. It's not essential to pass exams in all of them, however we'd advise that you study for all four areas.

If you decide to become a student on the A+ training course you will develop an understanding of how to build, fix, repair and work in antistatic conditions. You'll also cover fault-finding and diagnostic techniques, both remotely and via direct access. You might also choose to consider adding the CompTIA Network+ training as you can then also look after networks of computers, which is where the bigger salaries are.

Often, folks don't really get what information technology is doing for all of us. It is stimulating, innovative, and means you're a part of the huge progress of technology that will impact the whole world for generations to come. Technology, computers and connections on the web will dramatically change the direction of our lives over future years; incredibly so.

And don't forget that typical remuneration in the world of IT in the United Kingdom is significantly better than the national average salary, which means you will most likely receive considerably more once qualified in IT, than you could reasonably hope to achieve elsewhere. It's evident that we have a considerable nationwide need for certified IT specialists. It follows that as growth in the industry shows little sign of contracting, it appears this pattern will continue for years to come.

It's essential to have the current Microsoft (or any other key organisation's) authorised exam preparation packages. Avoid relying on unauthorised preparation materials for exams. The way they're phrased can be completely unlike authorised versions - and often this creates real issues once in the actual exam. Simulations and practice exams will prove invaluable as a resource to you - so that when you come to take the proper exam, you won't be worried.

Trainees hoping to start a career in computers and technology usually haven't a clue which direction to consider, let alone which sector to achieve their certification in. How can we possibly grasp the tasks faced daily in an IT career when we haven't done that before? We normally don't even know anybody who does that actual job anyway. Generally, the way to deal with this problem in the best manner lies in a full conversation around several areas:

* Your personal interests and hobbies - these often define what things will satisfy you.

* Are you driven to get qualified due to a precise motive - for instance, is it your goal to work at home (working for yourself?)?

* Is salary further up on your list of priorities than other requirements.

* Learning what the normal work types and markets are - plus how they're different to each other.

* The time and energy you'll put into the training program.

The best way to avoid the confusing industry jargon, and uncover the most viable option for your success, have an informal meeting with an industry expert and advisor; a person that appreciates and can explain the commercial realities while explaining the accreditations.

Beware of putting too much emphasis, as can often be the case, on the training process. Your training isn't about getting a plaque on your wall; this is about gaining commercial employment. Begin and continue with the end in mind. It's not unheard of, in many cases, to thoroughly enjoy one year of training but end up spending 10 or 20 years in a tiresome job role, as an upshot of not doing the correct level of soul-searching when it was needed - at the start.

Stay tuned-in to what it is you're trying to achieve, and formulate your training based on that - don't do it the other way round. Keep on track and study for a career you'll still be enjoying many years from now. The best advice for students is to speak with a skilled advisor before they embark on a learning course. This is essential to ensure it has the required elements for the career that is sought.
